This directory exists because somebody ought to keep a working list of the houses still doing it right: the family farms in Iredell County, the Red Hills plantations between Thomasville and Tallahassee, the working ranches west of the Missouri.

Every preserve below was checked against a working website or current public listing. The green Verified mark is earned only when a preserve confirms its own listing; it is never sold. Some are world-known. Some are quiet farms with a single Brittany and an honest gentleman who answers the phone. Both belong here.
